One of the first opportunities we had at designing an equestrian facility was on the Hollycombe estate in West Sussex. We needed to break down all aspects of the horse’s and groom’s daily routine and see if there was any way in which our design could create a more relaxed easy to use set up. The horses needed to have a good amount of space to move around in and be able to see each other as much as possible. We positioned paddocks along the rear of the stables enabling the horses to spend time outside on a regular basis helping to create a calm environment and minimize the risk of injury after excessive work by allowing the horses to ‘walk off’ any tightness from training. Grooms accommodation is spacious and homely whilst at the same time giving direct access to the stable yard for 24 hour monitoring of the horses.
